One of the often-overlooked benefits of using social media for your direct selling business is the amazing amount of professional development that you can enjoy, simply through being a participant in the online community. If you’ve read my blog for any length of time, you know that I recommend a content marketing strategy. Well many people employ a content marketing strategy with great success online, and that means that a great deal of content is literally being given away FOR FREE through social networking platforms. Add to this the fact that you have access through social networking tools such as Twitter to people you may never have been able to learn from directly before, and you have a powerful professional development tool at your fingertips!
Here are some tips to make the most of the professional development opportunities available through social media:
- Identify the thought-leaders that you would like to learn from, either through past experiences, or through a Google search. Once you have decided WHO you would like to learn from, search for them, by name, on Twitter, using the Find People function.
- Pay attention to the conversations going on in your niche. Who are they mentioning that THEY learn from? Especially if you are following a lot of direct sellers on Twitter, or searching on the term “direct sales,” you will find the people who are teaching in this space. Take a look at the profiles of the people you’re considering, and see if the content they’re sharing will be valuable to you.
- Once you have learned from the free content of specific people, you can then check out their upcoming event to see what kind of content you can purchase. A try before you buy approach can be extremely beneficial in helping you select training that will be the most valuable to you. For example, I am offering a free training call called Social Media 101 for Direct Sales Professionals (click here to register.) Those that find value from the call may enjoy my 6 week course called Social Media for Direct Sales Professionals, that teaches you step-by-step how to put the power of social media to work for your direct sales business. By trying before you buy, you know the value that you’ll receive.
